# Guidewheel alternatives, compared from each vendor’s own pages

Seven options for plants weighing Guidewheel, scored on what a power reading cannot tell you. Every rating rests on the company’s own published facts.

[Score them yourself](https://www.iotflows.com/compare/guidewheel-alternatives#scorecard)

Filters drawn from each company’s ratings below, from its own published facts.

The short answer

## Which alternative fits your plant? Start with what the sensor can see.

- 01

### Machines that idle under power?

SenseAi reads vibration, so a cut and an idle spindle look different. MachineMetrics reads the control.[45] Guidewheel’s own page: energised machines can read as running until thresholds are tuned.[5]

Best fit
- 02

### Part counts without a second sensor?

SenseAi counts parts from the same sensor that reports running and stopped. Guidewheel layers part counting on as another data source.[8]

Best fit
- 03

### Machine health, not just state?

SenseAi Embedded scores health against each machine’s own healthy baseline. Guidewheel: “It is not predictive maintenance.”[5]

Best fit
- 04

### Want maintenance and spare parts in one system?

The only one of the eight whose own pages list work orders and spare-parts inventory. Amper sells maintenance as an add-on.[16] Guidewheel “does not raise work orders”.[5]

Best fit
- 05

### Need a schedule for the floor?

Both sell drag-and-drop scheduling with automatic sequencing as an add-on.[47] Guidewheel leaves scheduling to the ERP.[7]

Best fit
- 06

### Want one price, before the demo?

All four publish prices on their pricing pages.[11],[27],[34] Guidewheel’s pricing page says custom quote; its landing pages say from $15,000 a year.[1],[3]

What the sensor sees

## More than a power reading

SenseAi reads vibration on the machine itself, so a cut, an idle spindle and a finished part each look different. It counts parts and, on SenseAi Embedded, scores machine health from the same sensor, on hardware we design, firmware and all.

Its own page: machines that stay energised between parts “can read as running when they are idle, until the thresholds are tuned”.[5]

Why plants look

## Why plants look past Guidewheel in its own words.

- **Power, not process.** “It reads power, not process. No temperatures, pressures, recipe parameters or controller tags.”[5]
- **Idle can read as running.** Machines that keep hydraulics, heaters or drives energised between parts can read as running until the thresholds are tuned.[5]
- **Part counts on another sensor.** Part counting is a data source layered on top of the current meters.[8]
- **No work orders, no health score.** It “does not raise work orders”, holds no inventory, and “is not predictive maintenance”.[5]
- **Three prices.** A custom quote on its pricing page, from $15,000 a year for 10 machines on its landing pages before hardware and installation, about $32K per plant a year on one of its comparison pages.[1],[2],[3],[9]
- **Renewals that rise.** A one-year term that renews itself, with renewal increases of up to 7% a year.[2]

**When to stay:** machine state on any machine that uses power, “regardless of age, make, or model”, with a starting price on its landing pages.[1],[10]

How to pilot

## Test an alternative on the machines you already run.

- **The same machines, the same shifts.** Pick a cell that mixes old and new machines, and include the one everybody argues about.
- **Two weeks of both numbers.** Compare uptime and part counts side by side, shift by shift.
- **Check the reasons on the floor.** Walk the top three downtime reasons with the operators who logged them.
- **Count the work around it.** Note what still needs a spreadsheet, a second login or an IT ticket.

An IoTFlows pilot runs on 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.

Customer story

## Criollos Foods raised bagging-line productivity 35%

Criollos Foods packs bagged and canned foods in Medley, Florida. BeamTracker counts every bag on its lines against a target of 30 bags a minute.

35%

more output on the bagging lines

92%

of lines hitting their target rate

20 min

faster product changeovers

### Challenge

Some operators ran a line at 20 bags a minute against a target of 30, and nobody could see who, on which product, or why. Changeovers between products went untimed.

### Solution

BeamTracker counts every bag and shows the live rate against target for every line, operator and product, with every stop classified. Supervisors coached the operators behind target and cut the slow changeovers.

## Questions people ask

### What are the best Guidewheel alternatives?

It depends on what your plant needs beyond machine state. IoTFlows designs its own vibration sensor, which counts parts and scores machine health, and adds maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory and a production scheduler, with published prices (Pro is $119 per machine a month billed monthly). FourJaw clamps current sensors at a low published price; Amper, now part of ECI, uses electrical sensors over cellular; Pulsar installs current sensors and a hub in one visit; Evocon publishes per-machine OEE pricing; Vorne XL sells one line’s monitor outright; MachineMetrics reads CNC controls.

### What can current sensing not see?

Guidewheel’s own page lists it: it reads power, not process, with no temperatures, pressures, recipe parameters or controller tags; machines that keep hydraulics, heaters or drives energised between parts can read as running when idle until thresholds are tuned; and it is not predictive maintenance. SenseAi reads vibration, so the cut and the pause between parts look different to the sensor, parts are counted from the same signal, and SenseAi Embedded scores machine health.

### Which Guidewheel alternatives count parts?

IoTFlows counts parts from the same SenseAi that reports running and stopped, and BeamTracker counts units on a line. Guidewheel layers part counting on as an additional data source, and Pulsar’s docs say totals need a count sensor mapped on the machine, on its OEE Pro plan.

### Which Guidewheel alternatives include maintenance work orders?

Of the eight, IoTFlows includes maintenance work orders and spare-parts inventory in the same platform as monitoring: Maintain opens a work order from a downtime, an event, a meter or a request, and Inventory moves the parts when it closes. Amper sells maintenance management as an add-on module; MachineMetrics and Evocon connect to a separate CMMS; Guidewheel says it does not raise work orders.

### Who makes Guidewheel’s hardware?

Its terms say any hardware it provides is purchased by Guidewheel on behalf of the customer from third-party suppliers. IoTFlows designs SenseAi, SenseAi Embedded and BeamTracker itself, the electronics, housing and firmware, with signed updates over the air, and Evocon and Vorne name themselves maker of their devices.

### What does Guidewheel cost?

Its own pages give three answers: a custom quote on its pricing page, from $15,000 a year including the first 10 machines on its landing pages, and about $32K per plant a year on one of its comparison pages. Its terms set a one-year term that renews itself, with renewal increases of up to 7% a year, and let customers lease or buy the hardware. Neither the hardware nor installation has a published price: both go on the order form, and unless it includes installation, the customer installs the hardware.

### How long does switching from Guidewheel take?

A SenseAi attaches magnetically in seconds and calibrates in under five minutes, and it mounts on the outside of the machine with no connection to the power leads, the control or the electrical cabinet, so IoTFlows can run beside Guidewheel during a pilot: 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.

### How are the scores calculated?

Each company is rated from 0 to 10 on ten criteria (cost, time to first data, machine versatility, controller data, setup and IT effort, scheduling, maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory, own hardware and published pricing) on one written rubric, using only facts from its own website, docs and price pages. Your weights decide how much each rating counts: the score is the weighted average of the ratings, times ten. The rubric and the fact behind every rating are on the page, with sources.
