# Install the mobile app and sign in

The mobile prerequisite that Wi-Fi provisioning, push alerts, and camera-first work orders all depend on.

The IoTFlows app is one app on both platforms and carries the same organizations, assets, and chats as the dashboard. Some things exist only there. Putting a sensor on a network is the important one, and there is no web equivalent for it.

Install the app even if you work from a desk. Bluetooth Wi-Fi *provisioning*, sending a device the network name and password it should join, happens over a short-range radio link from a phone standing next to the machine, and it is the only way to put a device on a network.

You need an IoTFlows account before the app shows anything. See [Sign in to IoTFlows](/docs/get-started/sign-in/).

## Install
1. Open the [App Store listing](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/iotflows/id6471156025) on iOS, or the [Google Play listing](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iotflows.iotflows_android_app) on Android.
2. Install **IoTFlows**. Searching the store for `iotflows` finds the same listing.
3. Open the app.

The app asks for your email address first and decides from the address what to ask for next, the same as the web. An address covered by single sign-on goes to your provider; every other address gets a password field. A two-step code, if your account has one, is asked for here too.

*Signing in on iOS. The app uses the same account as the web dashboard.*

If you belong to more than one organization, the app opens in one of them and you switch from the drawer. See [Switch between organizations](/docs/get-started/switch-organizations/).

## Turn on biometric sign-in (iOS)
Sign in with your password once first. The app cannot enroll a face against an account it has never seen.

1. On the sign-in screen, turn the **Face ID** switch on.
2. Sign in with your email and password.
3. On later launches, select the Face ID button that now sits on the sign-in screen.

*Turning on Face ID means you do not retype a password at the machine.*

Turning the switch back off clears the stored credentials, so the next sign-in asks for the password again. Touch ID works the same way on a device with a home button. The Android app has no biometric option.

## Allow notifications
The app asks for notification permission on first launch. Allow it.

![The Android system dialog asking whether IoTFlows may send notifications, with Allow and Don't allow](/images/get-started/gs-mobile-03.webp)

*Allow notifications during install. A rule with push enabled and permission denied fails silently.*

> **Warning:**
> **Declined the prompt?** Every alert rule that sends to the push channel stops arriving on that phone, with no error anywhere in IoTFlows. Turn notifications back on for IoTFlows in the operating system's own settings. See [Troubleshoot alerts](/docs/alerts/troubleshoot-alerts/).

## What the app does that the web does not
Four capabilities have no web path. Bluetooth Wi-Fi provisioning is the one that blocks an install, so do that from a phone standing at the machine. See [Connect a device to Wi-Fi](/docs/hardware/connect-to-wifi/).

The app also carries its own **Devices** list under **Settings**, with signal strength per sensor, which is what you read while walking the floor rather than sitting at the dashboard.

### What each client can do
| Capability | Web | iOS | Android | Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth Wi-Fi provisioning | No | Yes | Yes | [Connect a device to Wi-Fi](/docs/hardware/connect-to-wifi/) |
| Push notifications | No | Yes | Yes | [Push notifications on mobile](/docs/alerts/mobile-push/) |
| Face ID or Touch ID sign-in | No | Yes | No | This page |
| Start a request from the camera | No | Yes | Yes | [Submit a maintenance request](/docs/maintain/submit-a-request/) |
| Share a photo or file in from another app | No | Yes | Yes | [Submit a maintenance request](/docs/maintain/submit-a-request/) |
| Device list with signal strength | Yes | Yes | Yes | [View your devices](/docs/hardware/view-devices/) |
| Floor-plan canvas | Yes | No | No | [Build a floor plan](/docs/monitoring/canvas/) |
| Global search | Yes | No | No | [Navigate and search the dashboard](/docs/get-started/navigate-the-dashboard/) |

You do not need the app on every operator's personal phone. A shared tablet at the machine covers the operator tasks, and the sensor work is done once by whoever installs the hardware.
