Why shops look
Why shops look past MachineMetrics in its own words.
- Weeks, not minutes. Its docs put first contact to first data at 2 to 4 weeks, after a network cable and a static IP at each machine, control options, firewall ports and IT support.[3],[4],[5]
- Wired into each machine’s computer. Its docs ask for the authority to enable protocols or modify settings on each CNC control, the computer that runs the machine. For many plants, that’s a security concern.[5]
- Non-CNC machines on a fallback. Its docs send press brakes, injection molding and other non-CNC machines to I/O, “a fallback, not a preferred path”.[2]
- Scheduling costs extra. Its MES Module, with drag-and-drop scheduling, is a separate $16,000 unit per 13 machines.[7]
- Maintenance elsewhere. Work orders go to MaintainX, Fiix or UpKeep through an integration.[11]
- No price on its site. Its pricing page shows plan names and a demo button.[6]
When to stay: automated machining fleets that want control data on every machine, which is MachineMetrics’ deepest fit.[14]

How to pilot
Test an alternative on the machines you already run.
- The same machines, the same shifts. Pick a cell that mixes old and new machines, and include the one everybody argues about.
- Two weeks of both numbers. Compare uptime and part counts side by side, shift by shift.
- Check the reasons on the floor. Walk the top three downtime reasons with the operators who logged them.
- Count the work around it. Note what still needs a spreadsheet, a second login or an IT ticket.
An IoTFlows pilot runs on 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.
Customer story
Jesel answers machine issues in minutes, not days
Jesel builds valvetrain components on precision CNC machines in Lakewood, New Jersey, and reads its dashboard every morning.
- Minutes
- to respond to an issue, down from hours or days
- 100%
- cycle time accuracy, actual against the bill of material
- Daily
- OEE and utilization on every CNC machine
Challenge
Jesel ran capable CNC machines but couldn’t see how well each one was performing. The cycle times in its bills of material were taken on faith, and setup or tooling problems surfaced only after they had caused scrap or rework.
Solution
SenseAi on every CNC machine puts OEE and utilization on one dashboard, shift by shift. The team compares actual cycle times with the bills of material every day and catches deviations while they can still be fixed.
Products
SenseAi, with ideal cycle times set per operation.

“The IoTFlows Machine Sensors continue to provide us with valuable real-time data that we rely on to measure machine utilization and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). The dashboard has become an essential tool in our daily operations.”
MiRus raised efficiency over 20% and ties every job in its ERP to the machining behind it.
Questions people ask
It depends on what your shop needs beyond machine state. IoTFlows reads any machine with a magnetic sensor and adds maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory and a production scheduler, with published prices (Pro is $119 per machine a month billed monthly). Datanomix reads CNC controls over the network; Evocon publishes per-machine OEE pricing; Vorne XL sells one line’s monitor outright; Amper, now part of ECI, uses electrical sensors over cellular; Guidewheel and FourJaw clip current sensors onto the power cables.
Each company is rated from 0 to 10 on ten criteria (cost, time to first data, machine versatility, controller data, setup and IT effort, scheduling, maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory, own hardware and published pricing) on one written rubric, using only facts from its own website, docs and price pages. Your weights decide how much each rating counts: the score is the weighted average of the ratings, times ten. The rubric and the fact behind every rating are on the page, with sources.
Not only, but its own launch post says its deepest fit is automated machining, and its docs route press brakes, injection molding machines and other non-CNC equipment to an I/O connection, which they call a fallback that carries activity and cycles, not controller internals. IoTFlows reads every machine the same way, CNC or not, with a sensor on the outside.
IoTFlows designs SenseAi, SenseAi Embedded and BeamTracker, the electronics, housing and firmware, so the device itself decides when a machine runs and filters short pauses. Vorne says it is the manufacturer of its own XL appliance, and Evocon names itself manufacturer of its IIoT device, with sensors bought in. Guidewheel’s terms say its hardware is purchased from third-party suppliers, and MachineMetrics’ hardware shop sells an OnLogic edge PC, Sealevel I/O modules and Greystone current transducers.
Datanomix connects to CNC controls over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or serial, and MachineMetrics itself reads controls and PLCs over MTConnect, FOCAS, OPC-UA and other protocols. IoTFlows reads controls and PLCs over MTConnect, OPC UA and more through its edge device on Enterprise, beside the sensor on every machine. Guidewheel and FourJaw read current only, with no controller connection.
IoTFlows, Evocon, Vorne XL and FourJaw publish prices on their own pricing pages: IoTFlows per machine (SenseAi $149 once, Pro $119 a month billed monthly), Evocon $189 to $379 per machine a month, Vorne XL $4,490 to $4,990 per line once, FourJaw £72 to £180 per machine a month. Guidewheel’s landing pages say from $15,000 a year including 10 machines while its pricing page says custom quote; Amper and Datanomix publish no price.
Of the seven, IoTFlows includes maintenance work orders and spare-parts inventory in the same platform as monitoring: Maintain opens a work order from a downtime, an event, a meter or a request, and Inventory moves the parts when it closes. Amper sells maintenance management as an add-on module; Evocon and Datanomix connect to a separate CMMS; Guidewheel says it does not raise work orders.
Its own pricing page shows no prices. Its AWS Marketplace listing, written by MachineMetrics, prices the Core Platform at $29,000 for a 12-month contract per unit of up to 13 machines, and scheduling comes in a separate MES Module at $16,000 per unit. Its hardware shop lists the Edge Kit at $1,462.50.
Many plants worry about it: a control connection puts a new device on the machine and on a network, a security concern IT usually reviews first. MachineMetrics’ docs ask for the authority to enable protocols or modify settings on the controls, and call a separate machine network, isolated from the corporate network and the internet, “best for maximum security”. SenseAi never connects to the control or the PLC, so it can’t change a thing on the machine, and on the 4G/LTE router it stays off the plant network. On Enterprise, the IoTFlows edge device reads only the controls you choose to connect.
A SenseAi attaches magnetically in seconds and calibrates in under five minutes, and it never connects to the control, so IoTFlows can run beside an existing system during a pilot: 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.
They are the vendors that recur in the lists that rank for MachineMetrics alternatives, plus IoTFlows. Every fact about another vendor comes from that vendor’s own pages, read on the date shown under Sources; there are no review scores, and nothing one vendor says about another is repeated here.
