Datanomix alternatives, compared from each vendor’s own pages
Seven options for CNC shops weighing Datanomix, from the networked CNCs to the machines without a network port. Every rating rests on the company’s own published facts.
Filters drawn from each company’s ratings below, from its own published facts.
The short answer
Which alternative fits your shop? Start with the machines that aren’t networked.
- 01
Need program and alarm data from every control?
Datanomix connects to CNC controls over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or serial, and MachineMetrics reads them natively.[4],[15] IoTFlows reads them on Enterprise, through its edge device.

Running older or manual machines too?
A sensor reads a 1990s lathe or a manual mill from the outside. Datanomix’s own table: current draw on legacy equipment gives machine state only.[1]

Want maintenance and spare parts in one system?
Maintain and Inventory come on the same platform. Datanomix shows planned maintenance on a dashboard and connects to a CMMS; its inventory covers tooling.[7],[8],[9]
Best fit
IoTFlows - 04
Want a price before the demo?
All four publish prices on their own sites.[35],[38],[45] Datanomix prices per machine per year, with unlimited users, and publishes no number.[1]

Need a schedule for the floor?
MachineMetrics sells drag-and-drop scheduling as an add-on.[17] Datanomix plans jobs on machine availability in Delivery Track.[5]

Worried about connecting to the controls?
For many plants it’s a security concern. SenseAi never connects to the control or the PLC, and on the 4G/LTE router it stays off your network. Datanomix plugs a device into each CNC, on the shop Wi-Fi.[1]

Every machine, and the control
A sensor on every machine. Control data where you want it.
SenseAi reads running, stopped and part counts on any machine, networked or not. On Enterprise, the IoTFlows edge device reads controls and PLCs over MTConnect, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, Profinet and MQTT, and an alarm can open a work order in the same platform.
Its own table: a networked CNC gives part numbers, counts and alarms; current draw on legacy equipment gives machine state.[1]

Why shops look
Why shops look past Datanomix in its own words.
- State only off the control. Its own table: current draw on legacy equipment gives machine state, where a networked CNC gives part numbers, counts and alarms.[1]
- Wired into each machine’s computer. A device plugs into each CNC control, the computer that runs the machine, and links it to the shop Wi-Fi. For many plants, that’s a security concern.[1]
- Maintenance elsewhere. A planned-maintenance dashboard, and connections to a CMMS for the work itself.[7],[8]
- Scrap at the end of the shift. Operators track scrap on the Machine HUD at the end of the shift.[7]
- No price on its site. Priced per machine per year; no number published.[1]
When to stay: CNC shops that want control data with “No Operator Input™” and a coach in the rollout plan.[2],[4]

Any machine, with maintenance and parts built in
A SenseAi attaches magnetically in seconds and calibrates in under five minutes, on any machine of any age, and counts parts from the same sensor. Maintenance work orders, spare parts and the Production Scheduler run on the same platform.
Price: SenseAi $149 per machine, once, and Pro at $119 a month billed monthly, less on longer terms. Controller data through the edge device on Enterprise.

How to pilot
Test an alternative on the machines you already run.
- The same machines, the same shifts. Pick a cell that mixes old and new machines, and include the one everybody argues about.
- Two weeks of both numbers. Compare uptime and part counts side by side, shift by shift.
- Check the reasons on the floor. Walk the top three downtime reasons with the operators who logged them.
- Count the work around it. Note what still needs a spreadsheet, a second login or an IT ticket.
An IoTFlows pilot runs on 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.
Customer story
MiRus raised efficiency over 20% and sees the cost of every job
MiRus makes implants for the spine, the heart and the extremities in Marietta, Georgia. Its machines report live to IoTFlows, and every Epicor job comes back with the machining and labor hours behind it.
- 20%+
- higher efficiency
- ~1 month
- to a live Epicor connector
- Every job
- tied to its machining and labor hours
Challenge
The real cost of a job, in machine hours and labor hours, was hard to get, if it could be had at all, from the ERP alone. Productivity on the floor only showed up after the fact.
Solution
SenseAi and SenseAi Embedded show every machine’s productivity live, so problems get solved sooner. A two-way Epicor connector, live in about a month, pulls every job and ties it to the machining and labor hours it took.
Products

“The real-time visibility has been amazing for optimizing our operations. With the ERP integration, I see the numbers and where every job stands, without digging for them in our ERP.”
Jesel answers machine issues in seconds or minutes, down from hours or days, with SenseAi on every CNC machine.
Questions people ask
It depends on how much of your floor is networked CNCs. IoTFlows puts a sensor on any machine, reads controls and PLCs on Enterprise, and adds maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory and a production scheduler, with published prices (Pro is $119 per machine a month billed monthly). MachineMetrics reads CNC controls; Amper, now part of ECI, uses electrical sensors over cellular; Guidewheel and FourJaw clip current sensors onto the power cables; Evocon publishes per-machine OEE pricing; Vorne XL sells one line’s monitor outright.
Its own table lists current draw for legacy equipment, which gives machine state; part numbers, counts, alarms and G-code come from networked CNCs. SenseAi reads vibration on the outside of any machine, so it reports running and stopped and counts parts on a manual mill or a 1990s lathe the same way as on a new CNC.
Yes, on Enterprise. The IoTFlows edge device reads controls and PLCs over MTConnect, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, Profinet and MQTT, beside the sensor on every machine, and alarms feed the same rules as the sensors, so an alarm can open a work order. Live in one week to a month, priced by scope.
Many plants worry about it: a control connection puts a new device on the machine and on a network, a security concern IT usually reviews first. Datanomix plugs a device into each CNC on the shop Wi-Fi and says it uses only outbound ports. SenseAi never connects to the control or the PLC, so it can’t change a thing on the machine, and on the 4G/LTE router it stays off the plant network. On Enterprise, the IoTFlows edge device reads only the controls you choose to connect.
Its Machine Track page shows a maintenance dashboard of upcoming and overdue planned tasks, and its homepage lists connections to CMMS tools; its inventory covers tooling. IoTFlows includes Maintain and Inventory: a downtime, an event, a meter or a request opens a work order, and the parts leave stock when it closes.
Datanomix publishes no price. Its FAQ says it is priced per machine per year, not per user, and its SaaS agreement renews for 12-month periods unless cancelled 30 days before. IoTFlows is $149 per SenseAi, once, plus a subscription per machine: Pro is $119 a month billed monthly, less on annual and three-year terms.
Datanomix’s own pages do not name the maker of its edge device, and its SaaS agreement calls its legacy kit “Third Party Hardware”. IoTFlows designs SenseAi, SenseAi Embedded and BeamTracker itself, the electronics, housing and firmware, with signed updates over the air.
A SenseAi attaches magnetically in seconds and calibrates in under five minutes, mounted on the outside of the machine with no connection to the control, so IoTFlows can run beside Datanomix during a pilot: 10 to 25 machines for four weeks, with no commitment to buy.
Each company is rated from 0 to 10 on ten criteria (cost, time to first data, machine versatility, controller data, setup and IT effort, scheduling, maintenance work orders, spare-parts inventory, own hardware and published pricing) on one written rubric, using only facts from its own website, docs and price pages. Your weights decide how much each rating counts: the score is the weighted average of the ratings, times ten. The rubric and the fact behind every rating are on the page, with sources.
